ABOUT:
"The Rock Records" is the name of my headworld. Within it, the "story" I focus on the most is called "Nonconformity" (Nonco). The main setting is around 2011 - 2014.

NONCONFORMITY STORY:
Clayton, a teenager in Granite Heights, finds a peculiar flat rock, small enough to wear on his neck. Unknown to him, this rock is a legendary guitar pick that a cursed demon (Riff) is trapped inside. He takes the rock with him to a rock show where he meets Juliet, a girl from his school. In a desperate attempt to impress Juliet, Clayton bluffs claiming he has a really cool punk rock band. Unfortunately, the frontman of one of the bands there, Cal, overhears this conservation and challenges Clayton to a Battle of the Bands. He seems really interested in the flat rock hanging from Clayton's neck. Clayton is too afraid to back down so he eventually begs his friends Jade & Grant to form a band with him. They are pretty bad at it though and Clayton has really bad stage anxiety.
Clayton accidentally awakens the demon, which scared him at first but Riff is proven to be useful by possessing Clayton during performances, though he is hard to control while he's piloting Clayton's body since Riff is a huge glutton and will fight everyone for the last piece of fried chicken in the bucket.Throughout the course of NONCO, Clayton and his band run into many different challenges involving his guitar pick in Battle of the Bands, (including a colorful cast of characters like Floyd, Barry, Desmond, Diana, & Paris...and more) while he learns to use its power, control Riff, gain self-confidence & be true to himself, understand his friends, and most importantly...pass history class.(Nonconformity is rated PG-13 for excessive swearing, crude humor, and cartoon violence.)

INFO:
The Nonco-verse is a collection of stories and characters that take place in a fictional Texas Hill Country town named Granite Heights. There are other stories in The Rock Records that exist outside the Nonco-verse (in different settings or towns, i.e. Uranium Rush).
Essentially, this is a personal passion project of mine about geology, (alt) rock music, 50s sci-fi, and retro Americana.Nonconformity is created by Geoledgy.
Originally was a study tool to help study and memorize materials for introductory geology courses that grew into its own thing. Some important rocks from studying became obsolete in the story, taking on minor roles, and vice versa.
Please note while this is made for fun there is still geological information out there that I am unfamiliar with, so if you believe there is misleading or outdated information in regards to geology, by all means please let me know! I do not claim to know everything and love learning new things about geology :]

If you are curious about something or would like me to discuss something please send me a tumblr ask, or directly @ me on Twitter. Thanks!

FAQ:
Q: What form of media is Nonconformity supposed to be in?
A: Something that exists solely in my head. If technology was advanced enough to view at mind projections, I'd show you.
Q: What is Nonconformity about?
A: A bunch of rock kids playing rock music to rock their town so that others will think they rock.
Q: When is the comic going to be released, if there will be one?
A: I don't know, as it's not my main focus at this time. I like to do things when I want to. There might be short comics here and there, but nothing planned for a published full continuous story at this time.
Q: This should be a cartoon/show/etc.!
A: Well it shouldn't. It's a very personal project to me and even sharing it as a comic is already asking a lot from me. It is my own choice to share my progress and not every story someone creates has to become "consumable media" for the public. Please do not push me.
Also, please don't put Nonconformity to the same standards as cartoons and comics and stuff. I am just 1 guy, sharing this for free out of passion.
Q: May I create fan content (art, writing, music, etc.) for Nonconformity?
A: Yes, absolutely! You do not need to ask me. Just please be respectful, and don't draw anything illegal. NSFW AND SUGGESTIVE CONTENT OF KID & TEENAGED NONCO CHARACTERS IS PROHIBITED.
Q: May I create a rock character for the Nonconformity universe?
A: Sure! I don't mind doubles of rocks either, there's more than 1 diamond in the world and each are unique, ya feel me?
There's not really a guideline to creating a Nonco fan character, other than that their design must reflect the rock/mineral they represent. Characters must be human.
Please send a message my way if you plan on creating a character!
Q: What is up with that messed up mac 'n cheese photo on your site???
A: Do you like it

MAIN CHARACTERS

Design Notes:
- Height is average.
- Design is extremely flexible, can have demon tail and horns or not.

Name: Rodrick Mangano
Alias:
Gender: Agender (he/him)
Age: 20s
DOB:
Personality: Impulsive
Rock/Mineral: Rhodonite
Rodrick is not a Nonconformity character (he's just part of the Rock Recs universe, he is Cal's half brother, but he lives in a different town - Blueschist Ridge) but I ask for art of him a lot so why not make a page here for him too. Makes things easier. He is great for Valentine themed pieces. Gore/blood is ok too

He's really just a character I like to draw. There's nothing canon about him. I prefer his fursona (Aero) more but his human design is cool too.

Design Notes:
- Height is average, under 6 ft.
- Hair is any color between brown-orange to brown-purple.
- Sideburn (?) things on the side of his head is stiff, but can be drawn pointed or rounded.
- Choice of fashion is simple alt/punk clothing. Usually a black t-shirt with a band logo or geological symbols on it + red pants.
- Piercings do not need to all be drawn, but try to include at least 1.

Bio: Clay is a very average kid, he doesn't stand out in any way. Too average to be popular, and too average to be singled out and picked on. Clay isn't very bright either, he makes the most average grades ever. He believes he is a nobody & that everyone mocks him (which isn't exactly true! A lot of regular kids know he exists, but due to his avoidant nature they don't actually know him as a person.) He lives a life of monotony, following the same repetitive routines day to day, which he's honestly okay with. Clay enjoys taking life in the slow lane and never cared about standing out...until he met Jules. Now all of a sudden a whole landslide of events all crashed onto Clay at once. Forming a punk rock band with his 2 close and only friends, getting possessed by a bass shredding demon, discovering the secrets of a mysterious guitar pick, incidentally meeting his favorite rock star of all time (who was presumed dead until then), getting caught up in others' relationship hang-ups, and getting into all kinds of trouble...all to try impressing the girl of his dreams!Trivia:
- Voice claim: Jake Long (American Dragon: Jake Long) - VA: Dante Basco
- Singing voice claim: William Beckett (The Academy Is...)
- Named for claystone (a detrital sedimentary rock composed of clay-sized sediment) and dolomite (a carbonate rock)
- Speaks with a slight Texas drawl. Speech is slow and fragmented (it’s difficult to figure out when he’s done with his train of thought), uses a lot of contractions like y’all’ve.
- Knows how to stack a really good sandwich. He thinks it’s his best quality and takes pride in it.
- Jacket is actually a shredded up blazer he originally used for formal activities.
- Acts like a tough guy to seem cool but really has fragile feelings.
- Gets nervous at fast food places and only orders chicken tenders.
- Has an odd memory where he can remember random things in perfect detail and other things not at all. (I.e. he remembers the exact details of an obscure TV show but will completely forget your birthday.)
- Also has a lot of rock knowledge. He enjoys picking up random rocks on his travels.
- He’s pretty good at card games.

Relations

Jade

A close friend of Clay, he met Jade (and Grant as well) as kids during a meetup for a qilin/lion dance team.Clay tolerates Jade, but he thinks he is gross. Especially with all the stuff he has in jars laying around in his dilapidated doghouse. The two also get into heated arguments a lot, they can't see eye to eye, not to mention Jade sometimes gets on Clay's nerves.
