The Nonco-verse is a collection of stories and characters that take place in a fictional Texas Hill Country town named Granite Heights. Nonconformity itself is part of a larger story/world called The Rock Records, and there are other stories in The Rock Records, but Nonconformity is currently the most detailed and cohesive out of all of them. (Nonconformity is also the only story I am willing to share about publicly at this time, and is actually a flashback moment of the main characters).
Essentially, Nonconformity/The Rock Records is a personal passion project of mine about geology, (alt) rock music, 50s sci-fi, and retro Americana.
Nonconformity is rated PG-13 for excessive swearing, crude humor, and cartoon violence.
Nonconformity is created by Geoledgy.
Originally was a study tool to help study and memorize materials for introductory geology courses that grew into its own thing. Some important rocks from studying became obsolete in the story, taking on minor roles, and vice versa.
Please note while this is made for fun there is still geological information out there that I am unfamiliar with, so if you believe there is misleading or outdated information in regards to geology, by all means please let me know! I do not claim to know everything and love learning new things about geology :]

Q: What form of media is Nonconformity supposed to be in?
A: Something that exists solely in my head. I guess this is what some would call a "head world".
Q: What is Nonconformity about?
A: A bunch of rock kids playing rock music to rock their town so that others will think they rock.
Q: When is the comic going to be released, if there will be one?
A: I don't know, as it's not my main focus at this time. I like to do things when I want to.

A: Well it shouldn't. It's a very personal project to me and even sharing it as a comic is already asking a lot from me. It is my own choice to share my progress and not every story someone creates has to become "consumable media" for the public.
Also, please don't put Nonconformity to the same standards as cartoons and comics and stuff. I am just 1 guy, doing this for free out of passion, please be patient with me.

A: Sure! I don't mind doubles of rocks either, there's more than 1 diamond in the world and each are unique, ya feel me?
There's not really a guideline to creating a Nonco fan character, other than that their design must reflect the rock/mineral they represent. Characters must be human or have a humanoid form.

Bio: Clay is a very average kid, he doesn't stand out in any way. Too average to be popular, and too average to be singled out and picked on. Clay isn't very bright either, he makes the most average grades ever. He believes he is a nobody & that everyone mocks him (which isn't exactly true! A lot of regular kids know he exists, but due to his avoidant nature they don't actually know him as a person.) He lives a life of monotony, following the same repetitive routines day to day, which he's honestly okay with. Now all of a sudden a whole landslide of events all crashed onto Clay at once. Forming a punk rock band with his 2 close and only friends, getting possessed by a bass shredding demon, discovering the secrets of a mysterious guitar pick, incidentally meeting his favorite rock star of all time (who was presumed dead until then), getting caught up in others' relationship hang-ups, and getting into all kinds of trouble...all to try impressing the girl of his dreams!

Clay tolerates Jade, but he thinks he is gross. Especially with all the stuff he has in jars laying around in his dilapidated doghouse. The two also get into heated arguments a lot, they can't see eye to eye, not to mention Jade sometimes gets on Clay's nerves.
Grant
Clay's best friend, the one person he trusts to tell MOST things to, and the person he hides behind in social situations.
He believes Grant is the most sane between them and Jade (as long as he stays away from their incinerator). However, he's not a fan of Grant's pushy attitude. He knows they're just trying to help him get out of his shell, but it's a bit much...!!
Riff
A weird little demon-thing that Clay meets, and PROBABLY accidentally summoned by shredding his bass really hard.
Riff makes himself Clay's problem (mooching off his food) for "freeing him from the realm of punishment" and gifts him a peculiar but magical guitar pick that can summon him anywhere when Clay is in a pinch. He can also possess Clay. How fun!
Jules
Clay has a huge crush on Jules, or at least he's really convinced he does. He wants to impress Jules into thinking that he's cool.
Jules is the reason the Nonconformity band even exists in the first place! Clay met Jules at a rock show. Even though Clay enjoys hanging out with Jules, he has trouble telling Jules how he feels though, but let's see how that goes!
Cal
Clay's rival. Maybe self-proclaimed. Cal didn't really seem to wild about that idea, in fact he finds it amusing.
Everything Cal does drives Clay so ANGRY. His attitude, the way he dresses, the way he carries himself. But Clay's anger only provokes Cal into being more annoying to him. He wishes to do nothing more than wipe the smug grin off Cal's face.
Diesel
Clay's idol! He found him living in a junkyard after disappearing off the face of the planet for a decade or so.
He really admires Diesel. In fact, he's memorized all of Diesel's solos! Clay's just happy that he was able to persuade the rock legend into mentoring his band (it took a bit of annoying begging and messing around with his truck to make him budge).
Floyd
Clay sees Floyd as more of a pest than a rival. A little annoying. He wishes Floyd would leave him alone.
Everyone in town knows who Floyd is, he's the bratty son of that shady CEO that lives in Granite Heights. Clay is a little worried about why Floyd seems so interested in his band...it just seems like he’s asking for trouble, and Clay HATES inconveniences.

Jade gets along with Grant really well! A lot better than he does with Clay. They enable each other.

Riff
Jade initially thought Riff was a dead rat, and tried to bury him. It did not go well. But now they're good friends!
Jade and Riff realized that they're not so different from each other; they both liked gross foods, and what's a better bonding experience than sharing a moldy banana peel with a bro?
Jules
Jade is the closest to Jules out of all the Nonconformity members. They hang out and draw together.
The two met in art club, and got along really well because they both liked drawing funny comics. Jade and Jules make their own characters together. Jules likes to share his snacks with Jade.
Floyd
Jade and Floyd sort of have a complicated past. They knew each other in early childhood and were close friends until Floyd's dad tore them apart by blaming Jade is a "bad influence".
With Floyd's constant defeat in Battle of the Bands by Nonconformity, he stopped antagonizing the band and eventually befriended Jade again, though secretly so his dad doesn't find out!.

Despite his obsession with watching people tear each other apart, Cal’s love language is well, love! Nothing better than setting up 2 people together (it might become juicy drama later when they have a massive break up). Cal is constantly texting on his RAZR flip phone or chatting away with his friends, talking about the latest 4-1-1, so word spreads FAST.
His persuasive nature plays out well in conning others into buying his “life hack” inventions, that is, until the buyer realizes they’ve been scammed! Cal sees Floyd as a nuisance, sort of a friend but also sort of not. Floyd likes to talk to Cal like Cal is his personal diary and Cal just ignores him.

Bio: Rosario, a new kid who recently moved to Granite Heights from Beverly Hills. His full obnoxious title is The Rose Quartz: Rosario Cortez, and fully expects everyone to call him that, but his peers just call him Rose Quartz because Clay misheard him. High class and refined, Rose hosts extravagant Gatsby-styled parties at his mansion frequently, the good news is that everyone is invited! Except Clay and Cal. Who are banned from attending because they dare to insult the great Rose Quartz!
Everything Rose Quartz does has to be flashy and showy! The performance and execution is just as important as the results to him, otherwise he will not accept. He's a bit of a stickler for rules and cleanliness too.
Rose Quartz also highly admires Desmond and the Adams family, and hangs out with them, claiming that he works for them but no one knows why he is even there. That doesn't stop Desmond from making Rose Quartz his lackey though, especially with his desire to please his higher-ups and inability to refuse.

Bio: A brilliant and smart kid who’s just a tiny bit snobby, but he means well! Floyd often casually flaunts his wealth, though many assume he’s bragging...but his generous nature says otherwise, not like he’s going to miss it anyways! He’s generally well-liked by others despite being shy and avoidant of large social gatherings. Floyd prefers the comfort of his small friend group than wild parties. Floyd is generally gullible, and easily falls for tricks, while also having a hard time reading the room. (This isn't to say he's unaware of when people are upset at or dislike him though, he's not dense.) He doesn’t let that bother him though. He also takes a LOT of pride in anything he does or create, and loves talking about scientific theories. Floyd thinks they’re fascinating and can go on and on all day about them, so prepare your ears and take a seat! Once you get him started, you’ll be here all day. He can get so lost in his work that he forgets to carry out other tasks.
He kind of has a black and white way of thinking, and that the ends are more important than the means. Floyd is loyal to those close to him, but this also means he is prone to blindly following orders...especially from his own father.

Granite Heights is a (fictional) town in the central Texas Hill Country, located somewhere on the Edwards Plateau.

About The Mantle
The Mantle is an alternate dimension that is part of inside the earth, but exists as its own independent entity. (It can only be crossed via magical portals, not physically even if drilling to the earth's mantle was possible.)
rock/lava cycle works much like water cycle on earth's surface: molten rock rains down, solidifies, vaporizes under intense heat, and condenses again, forming hot ash clouds.subducting plates slide unto the mantle and teleport to this alt dimension, the place is filled with subducted plates floating around on rock and gas.hawaiian-type volcanoes form much of the landscapeflood basalts create lava "oceans" while some surfaces are covered in lava lakes and lava rivers.Hot springs are common, and are popular hangout places.Most civilization are built within and around seamounts that are stuck on the slabs.Atmosphere is a hazy green and red from the gases and incandescent molten rock.Aesthetic: retro-futuristic, sci-fi, steampunk, dieselpunk, grunge
About the Magman

Magmen are the main dwellers of the Mantle. Supposedly forged from rock, and resemble gargoyles.
blood is a really runny lava-like fluid. very hot to humans (but a perfectly comfortable range for demons)most start off with 1 rock type but over the years may include other rocks and minerals that are compatible into their bodies either as repair or modifications.
4 main factions, based on method of power acquirement (that they cannot agree on):
Geothermal - have retro-futuristic cities, very science based, evolved out of having night vision due to inventions lighting up the area that it was no longer needed.Steam - have steampunk-like societies. Inner cities resemble victorian architecture while towns are more western.Fossil Fuels - dieselpunk, most travel or live among large blimps since they're always on the move to exploit the land for resources. A powerful source of energy, but in the mantle fossils are even more rare than on the surface since most have melted away upon entering the mantle.Music energy - traditional, in the sense that this was what they originally used for power. While it is the most efficient and clean way to power cities, it also takes away their lifeforce, leaving them empty shells.
